| Annette Freyberg-Inan has authored and taught widely in the fields of International Relations, International Political Economy, Comparative Politics, Political Theory, and Social Science Methodology. Her regional focus lies on Europe, especially Central and Eastern Europe and Turkey. Her main thematic interests are: - theories of international relations and their development through cross-fertilization with (social) psychological and philosophical approaches - processes of political economic transformation in the context of Europeanization and transnationalization, as well as citizens' reactions to them Annette Freyberg-Inan is member of the research program group Transnational Transformations of Political Economy and Governance at the Amsterdam Institute for Social Science Research (AISSR). She has been member of the Knowledge Program Civil Society in
Closed Societies (funded by the AISSR and the Dutch Humanist Institute for Development
Cooperation, 2008-2011), the EU-funded Jean Monnet Module Debating
European Security (Sant'Anna School of Advanced Studies, Pisa,
Italy, 2010-2013), and the EU-funded international cooperation project "EU and Turkey:
Challenges and Opportunities" (2010-2012). |
Previously she taught and researched for ten years as associate professor at the University of Amsterdam. From 1999 to 2003 she worked in Romania for the Civic Education Project, the United Nations Resident Coordinator System, and the Open Society Institute Higher Education Support Program. She obtained her PhD in 1998 from the University of Georgia, USA.
Further professional positions currently (2013) held include:
- Vice-president of the International Studies Association (ISA)
- Vice-chair and Program Chair of the Theory Section of the International Studies Association
- Member of ISA Committee on the Status of Women in the Profession
- Executive Council member and Program Chair of the Central and Eastern European International Studies Association
- Co-editor of the Journal of International Relations and Development
- Service on a variety of editorial and advisory boards
Annette Freyberg-Inan also has extensive administrative, organizational and management experience. She has served as program director, discipline coordinator, member
of departmental strategic and tactical planning committees, member of strategic research planning committee, member of research
school governing council, member of educational/ teaching committee, in the preparation for and execution of academic (re-)accreditation processes, as academic advisor, on multiple search committees, and in a variety of other administrative capacities. She has also organized a number of international conferences and workshops.
